Erik the Viking 1989

This kooky comedy has a couple of viking long boat miniatures complete with a working rowing mechanism and scale viking figures. It also has an articulated sea monster with an angler fish like glowing orb and eyes and a smattering of matte paintings.

At least some, if not all, of the miniature ship sequences were shot at the tank facilities on Malta.

The visual effects designer was Richard Conway who has a long resume of work that I have always admired, from Terry Gilliam's Brazil and Baron Munchausen, to Memphis belle and the famously cut miniatures heavy ending of Little shop of Horrors, since restored in a Blu-ray directors cut.

End of the earth waterfall set up in the deep tank on Malta.

Long boat at the edge of the earth.
